Hi! I’m Savanna,
Touring tennis player & aspiring blogger
My name is Savanna Ly-Nguyen and I am a Canadian-born Vietnamese Tennis player. I started playing tennis at the age of 5 and it has now become a huge part of who I am. I am currently competing on the tennis tour on a journey to achieve my personal tennis goals, wherever that may take me. As a junior, I mostly played tournaments in Canada as traveling outside the country wasn't financially possible. However, I made the most out of it, and became one of the top juniors from U12-U18 in the country. As there was a need for Vietnamese female tennis players, I changed my nationality and after winning many national tournaments, I became the number 1 tennis player in Vietnam. I garnered the opportunity to be part of the national team and represent Vietnam in many events, such as Asian Games, SEA Games and Billie Jean King Cup.
After finishing high school at École Jeunes Sans Frontières, I accepted a D1 scholarship at Washington State University and had a great experience playing in the PAC-12 from 2019-2022. During this time, I also played the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines and became the first female Vietnamese player in history to made the Tennis Singles Event Finals. In 2022, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Neuroscience and was preparing to enter Pharmacy School. However, I decided to put my education on a pause and refocus on tennis for the time being. I am always grateful to have the opportunity to play tennis and compete; concluding that if I want to make something happen with my tennis career, the time is now.
Since then, I've played 2 more SEA Games, earning a silver medal and 2 bronze medals, played the Asian Games in China, competed in Billie Jean King Cup, won a doubles title in Monastir and achieved a WTA Ranking in both Singles and Doubles. At the same time, I also gained much knowledge that I would like to share with other tennis players to help them on their current tennis journey, no matter the level. That is why I've created this blog to share my tennis thoughts, advice, and guidance. My goal is to hopefully help and inspire other tennis players into furthering their tennis goals and living the tennis lifestyle. Happy Reading!
